Free IELTS® Tips
On this page you will receive free tips to help you pass the IELTS®. Unfortunately one page is not enough to give you all of the material you need to pass. Keep reading through this. If you have questions contact us at info@ielts4nurses.org at any time. We will respond to you.
1. Where do you begin to prepare for the IELTS®? The first priority is that you need to learn how to type, and type well. This means at a rapid rate (30 words per minute or more) and with accuracy. Why? The IELTS® is completely Internet based and typing is a mandatory skill. More on this subject on page 12 of our main IELTS® prep book.
2. Learn to take accurate and succinct notes. Succinct means short and to the point. You are allowed to take notes during the IELTS® and it is highly recommended that you do so. More on this subject on page 27 of our main IELTS® prep book.
3. Listening is a skill that must be developed. You must learn to listen well, understand what is being said, and become intuitive as to what is inferred. We have 2 CD’s devoted to this subject along with one huge chapter of over 60 pages in our main IELTS® prep book.
4. Understand different “accents” of English. Actually it is not an “accent”, but different pronunciations of the same words. You need to understand the correct pronunciations of words whether they are spoken by Americans, Canadians, Britons, or Australians. We supply you a British English to American English cross dictionary and also an Australian English to American English cross dictionary in our IELTS® materials set.
5. The main points to touch on when writing are: Who, What, Why, When, Where and How. You will need to incorporate all or most (depending on your subject) of those elements. We have a complete writing section in our main IELTS® prep book.
6. If you are prone to use idioms while speaking make sure you get them right. There
is nothing worse than trying to use idioms to demonstrate a skill in speaking English
and then making a mistake, or making a mis-
7. Some English words are easily confused with others. Make sure you use simplified
language and do not try to over-
8. You will need to have a very clear voice, with good pronunciations and good grammar for the six interactive speaking questions you will be presented. Learn to speak in a measured manner, with each word pronounced separately and correctly. We devote an entire chapter to the Speaking Component (Chapter 8) and supply you with a separate Speaking Component CD!
9. It is necessary that you start to read on a regular basis. It is our recommendation
that you read well-
